INTERNAL MEMO: CASE FILE #009 | SUBJECT: YVES – [EP / DELUXE REGISTRY]
[ ARCHIVIST’S NOTE ] We’ve been watching Yves closely since she cleared her desk at her former group, LOONA. The consensus here at the department? Going solo was the best executive decision she could have made. The old label never really tapped into her full potential, but her new trajectory shows an artist with a clear vision and a consistent identity. This latest project proves she’s not afraid to experiment, even if a few files in the folder feel a bit unfinished.

1. THE EXPERIMENTAL LEAD: "Viola"
Viola: The project opens with a track that stays in the same lane as her debut single “LOOP,” which we loved. The evolution is visible here; the second verse is elevated by a constant, subtle build-up in the production. However, let’s be real—she’s not exactly being Shakespeare with the lyrics. The “I just need some space” hook is repeated a bit too much, making it a nice song that definitely had the potential to be higher-tier with more lyrical depth.
Hashtag: This is a massive slap after the title track. Honestly, it’s just so much better. The harmonies, the production, and her specific vocal tone—everything eats. While we appreciate her experimental house side, this specific sound suits her perfectly. It’s a standout entry in the directory.
Gone Girl: We’re slowing things down here with a guitar tone that mirrors the previous track, and the department is here for the cohesiveness. It’s a solid, laid-back entry, but it suffers from the "short song" epidemic. Cutting the track at 2:56 felt like an editorial oversight; it needed more time to really build into something special.
Tik Tok: We respect the cohesiveness of the album—using the same production elements keeps the vibe consistent. However, this one felt a bit too laid-back. It’s a monotone track that desperately needed some harmonies to break up the flatline. Also, that unnecessary instrumental outro? Girl, skip it.
DIM: The global TikTok trend makes its appearance, shifting the production toward trap and autotune. It feels a bit out of nowhere in terms of tracklist placement, but the producer absolutely ate the instrumental. It creates a whole painting with the sound, even if the flow of the album takes a slight hit.
4. THE DELUXE AUDIT: "BIRD" VS. "See you in hell"
BIRD: This was a struggle for the office. The early 2000s Avril Lavigne / Pop-rock vibe felt forced. Neither the vocal performance nor the production landed for us. It feels like an emo-genre experiment that should have stayed in the drafts. Immediate skip.
See you in hell: Now, this is how you do that genre. She absolutely ate with this one. It’s a much more polished, put-together version of the previous rock attempt. The lyrics and production are top-tier, and the stripped-back section actually gave the department goosebumps. This is easily a top pick for the project.
[ THE DEPARTMENTAL VERDICT ]
Yves is proving she has a vision and a main idea she wants to stick to, which we highly respect. While we still find ourselves revisiting her debut project more often, this new file is a very positive addition to her solo archive. She’s consistent, she’s experimental, and she’s finally showing us what she’s capable of.
[ FINAL REGISTRY SCORE: 6.7 / 10 ]
[ OFFICIAL STATUS: STANDARD CERTIFIED ]
"Consistency is key, and Yves has it. We’re keeping 'Hashtag' and 'See you in hell' on the high-priority office rotation. We're ready for whatever her next rebranding looks like."
